Well, here we go again.  Not a lot of changes from the ole 30 year - still beating my head on the "architectural wall" and trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up...

Still married, wife Kim and two GREAT daughters.  The younger daughter, Rozie is a 9th grader at WV Jr High and plays coronet/trumpet in the WVHS marching band this year - just got accepted into the jazz band, and we're all quite excited and proud about that!.

Our older daughter, Olivia WVHS class of 2003, is off at WSU (GO Cougs!) in her 2nd year of Veterinary Medicine School - about a year ahead of where she "should be."  So far, I've been very lucky that the kids didn't take after me!

The "then" photo: Thats me with my '57 MGA at Rimrock Lake - Picture snapped on my "Instamatic" most likely by Denny Mullins?  The previous picture was me with my Honda 160 road-bike-converted-to-scrambler, (article in the 'Ram Tales' authored by Steve Spencer.)  The 160 is long gone, but my old '85 Suzuki 250 dual-sport is out in the shed now, collecting dust - it's still a good bike, electical system only 6 volts, so a little hokey... if anyone would like to go putt around in the hills, let me know!

The "now" photo, the whole family on Thanksgiving day, out in the pasture with our 5 goats (not pictured) and our big old mutt dog.

Hope everyone has a great holiday season!  More later...

From Brenda:

I am employed by a large broadband telecom company, EarthLink, Inc. in the Finance Department as the commercial Sr. Credit & Collections Analyst.  This is a job I thoroughly enjoy, and my customers enjoy me, too ... even if I am collecting past due debts from them.  The stories I could write as to why their payments are late or why they can't pay their bills, are very entertaining !  But, I do get their money !  LOL
Someday I may write a book !

I still live on my horse ranch, and teach beginning and intermediant riding lessons in Engligh and Western riding on the weekends.  Many of my student have gone on to win high blues at state competiitons.  I hold a judges license for Drill Team events, and do judge numerous open horse shows throughout Clark County and Portland, OR.

I have been divorced since 1980 and am very involved in the 4-H groups, Saddle Club and the past president of the Washington State Trail Riding association and founding member and past president of the Clark County Executive Horse Council.  (Gee, I just don't have time to be married !  HA !)

I have done some traveling to the South Pacific and had a great time.  Weather is much better there, than in 'wet city' Vancouver, USA.

In my spare time, I have a small home business cleaning, repairing ripped and torn horse blankets for several feed stores and large riding stables.  Even show horses can be destructive on their blankets.  Being extremely detailed, I have to keep telling myself,..."It's not a prom dress" so relax and just sew the rips...it's only a horse blanket"  (I even customize horse blankets to fit particular horses.)

And, when I am not riding or repairing horse blankets, I play a bright red electric bass guitar and electric acoustic guitar in a country western band !  We play for parties and BBQ's and have a blast.  Several times, I have hosted the parties at my farm, with a "western" theme, of course !  There's plenty of parking for everyone.

I will not be able to attend the function, but did want to update everyone on what I've been doing for the past 40 years.  Time really goes fast.

I hope the reunion finds you all prosperous, healthy and doing exactly what you hoped you would be doing at this time of your life. My husband Rich and I are doing well and enjoying having two wonderful granddaughters. Emma is five and Sarah is three and they will give any other grandchild out there a run for their money in beauty, intelligence, athleticism and lovability. I am just a little prejudiced as very grandparent has a right to be.

Rich is a Court Commissioner for King County in the Family Law division. He loves the work and just recently came back from a conference in New Orleans. I am still working two – three days a week at Seattle Vocational Institute in Seattle, I also watch the granddaughters two days a week. We keep working so we can do all the other things we like to do.

Last April we went to Disneyland with our son Jason, his wife Katie and the two girls, along with our daughter Leslie. The girls didn’t know they were going on a plane or where they were going until we were at the airport. Great fun! In August of 2006 Rich and I traveled to Sweden, England and Ireland. It was the trip of a life time. We spent a week in Sweden with Tim Ohlund and his family. (For Ron Nystrum, Tim says hi and where the hell are you? Go see him sometime; you will have an amazing time.) Ireland had great beer, wonderful music, interesting people and the worst drivers and roads in the world. I learned to use a GPS in about 15 minutes. There were days when I had the GPS in one hand and two maps on my lap. Rich did all the driving. Thank God! Europe doesn’t believe in street numbers or signs and if there are signs, the street names change about every six blocks and there are no signs with the new street names.

Rich is still hot air ballooning. We started about 30 years ago. I was looking for a family interest that I could get my workaholic husband into. Little did I know he would embrace it just like he did work, or that I would find out that I have a fear of heights. (After our driving experience in Ireland I have overcome my fear of flying and heights.) Our next trip should be Australia. (I don’t think we’ll be ready for your trip Suzanne and gang. Hope you have a great time.)

One last interesting thing about our little family. The last three years we have created a local race, (based loosely on the Amazing Race), in the Seattle Area. We call it The Pretty Darn Good Race. Participants must solve clues and complete tasks in order to find the next location. Originally we hoped to introduce people to little known or interesting places throughout the area. Activities have included laser tag, golf, bowling, kayaking. Finding the shoe museum at Pike Place, the first Starbucks, going through the Experience Music Project without paying more then $2.00 each, finding the only national park in downtown Seattle, and many more fun things. If you are interested in seeing more about the race you can check out our Website at www.pdgr.org.

I hope you all have a great time at the reunion and I guess John Lennon was right. Life really is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.

Well, I am definately not going to be able to attend the reunion.  I know it will be wonderful for all of you who are able to get there. It has been really fun to get re-aquainted with everyone who has posted a bio. Hope to see more even after the reunion.  I'll definately get to the next reunion unless it gets scheduled at an impossible time. MT is a great state for vacations-maybe some of you will get out this way-please give me a call.

Here's the short version of 40 years:
After graduation I spent 13 months in Denmark-an experience that was both fun and challenging.  I am fortunate to have a Danish friend close by, so I still can chatter away "paa Dansk."

After Denmark I went to Whitman College, then to U of O in Eugene, then left school to get involved with all the "hip" things that were happening in Berkley, CA during the early 70's. Life eventually took me to Milwaukee, WI where I met my husband, Michael.  We have been together since 1973.

In the mid eighties I went back to school in LA and got a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising.  Then worked as a designer and production coordinator for a Jonathan Martin, a women's dress and sportwear manufacturer for a few years.  That was a fun, fast paced job with trips to NYC for shows and buying etc. Then my husband's job was transferred to Montana, so I left the big city and went back to the country.

We just bought a home on 3 acres near Gardiner, MT the north entrance to Yellowstone Park.  We both work for a non-denominational church-The Summit Lighthouse-where we have been able to do as many different jobs over the years as we have had an interest in. When we aren't working we spend as much time as we can outdoors hiking, biking and xc-skiing. Michael coaches kids in the Mammoth/Gardiner cross country ski team, and I go along to cheer them on. I try to help some of the young girls in our community learn to sew. Since we don't have kids of our own, we can be involved with many young people and help them learn skills that their parents don't have time for. We strive to live consciously, helping to make the world a better place and are more concerned with how we live than with having a lot of things.

Our family was thrilled to get back in contact with Hiep, the AFS student from Vietnam who stayed with us in 1967. We lost track of her when N. Vietnam took over and did not hear from her for 30 years!  I will post a separate profile for her. Please come by for a visit if you decide you want to see Yellowstone Park--we have lots of room!

I have not been avoiding my bio exactly, just really busy these past few
weeks.  so here it is.  If you would paste it up I would appreciate it.

First, how great to read about all of you.  I always tell Bob I thought
that our class was one of the best and most interesting and real of the
classes that I have known.

I will remind you that at our twentieth reunion I was what is called
"great with child."  My amazing Emma was born and, as most of you already
knew then, changed my life forever.    When she was one Bob Hansen and I
started seeing each other and we ended up getting married.  Emma was two
and Bob adopted her when she was three and he has been a great Dad.    We
lived in a Hawaii for a few years while Bob pursued a construction career.
It was a beautiful place to live but very expensive.  When the yen
dropped it was time to head for the mainland.

About that time a small group of people in Vermont were looking for
someone to start a middle school so, having been teaching and often
thinking about what I would do if I had my own schoo, I applied for the
job and was hired.

We have been living in Peacham, Vermont since 1999, population 600 (give
or take a few cows).  The neighboring town has a great Academy where Emma
attended school.

It's been great and I love my school.  Bob works for an organization
called Gilman Housing Trust, a non-profit that provides housing and home
repairs for low income families.  We live in the corner of Vermont that is
the most economically depressed.

You can visit the web page of my school at www.thestevensschool.org.  It's
a bit outdated because the parent who was running has stopped because his
daughter graduated.  But we hope to update it soon.

Bob's daughter, Kate, teaches middle school in California.  Emma graduated
from the Academy in12006, having already been published in The Kenyan
Review and a couple of other small presses, and took a year off to just
breathe for a bit.  She was a field rep for Bernie Sanders Senate campaign
(say what you will -- it was seniors and vets who elected him-- this
drives Steven Marble crazy) and then worked in a deli, and visited a
friend in Slovenia.

She is now at Hunter College in Manhattan and I have been quite weepy the
last few weeks.  People tell us we will get used to it, but I don't like
it.

Have a great time at the runion.  I would love to see you guys.   I tell
people about our great newspaper prank for Mr. Rosin's office.  My
favorite one is the one with the horns in the Dennys parking lot.  But my
recollection is that Marquette got credit for it!

Love to all -- Julie

P.S.  Why do we all look so old?  I don't get it.

P.P.S.  For those of you who remember my Mom -- she lived with us or very
near by us for the twenty years since Emma was born.  She lived with us in
Hawaii and here in Vermont.  Two years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer
that had spread to her brain and died very quickly after that.  I  was
with her around the clock in her last week.  She was funny right up to the
end.  What spirit.  If you remember her, I know you remember how funny she
could be -- hope you are smiling.

Nothing like waiting for the last minute, but thought I'd add a short bio to the list.

I, like so many of you, can't believe it's really been 40 years, and also like so many of you, wonder where all the years went!

But life has been good...a first marriage brought me 2 great kids ~ Michael (40) and Jenny (32).  Then I met my soul mate & best friend, Mike; we celebrated our 30th anniversary this year (He says he puts up with me cuz no one else would...don't tell him, but he's probably right!!)

In 1985, we decided to move to Juneau, Alaska, to try it for "just one year" (Susan Olson, who was living there at the time, lured us there with promises of great fishing and high wages, both true!!)  Well, our one year turned into nearly 20, since we didn't return to Yakima till 2004.  While living in Juneau, I worked as exec. asst. to the City Mgr & Mayor, and Mike was purchasing agent for an ACE hardware & building supply center. All of our four grandchildren were born in Juneau, and still live there with their parents. Yes, we left one family behind to return to Yakima to live closer to aging parents & siblings - OK, also to come back to this wonderful weather!  Juneau gets up to 100" of rain/year, so Yakima's weather ROCKS!

However, our plan when returning to Yakima was to be semi-retired, but with two kids, four grandchildren (and a fifth due in early December) I find it necessary to work full-time to buy all those spendy plane tickets.

I'm currently working as Development Director for the YWCA of Yakima, love my job and the chance to make a difference in this community.  We are in the middle of a huge capital campaign to fund the purchase and renovation of the former Yakima Convalescent/Retirement Center.  After renovations are complete late next year, this will be the new permanent home of the YWCA, with additional emergency domestic violence shelter space as well as 16 transitional living apartments and life skills training offered for the women and children.  It's an exciting time to be a part of this project, and I'm grateful to be involved in it.  OK, enough of a plug for my employer!

On a personal note, besides traveling to/from Alaska, I'm happy to be "home" living in the Yakima Valley, and glad I made it home in time to attend this reunion.  What a great job the reunion committee has done....way to go!   I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, it's going to be fun!!

Hello to all.  First off, let me, too, thank Gay and Lyle and everyone else involved in the planning of our 40th reunion.  You have all done a really fantastic job and I have so enjoyed all the bio's and pictures.  I remember like yesterday at our graduation with Steve Hull ending his speech by saying "this would be the last time we would all be together as a class".  It was a sad realization knowing he was right and how all of our lives would change from that night forward.  However, it has been refreshing for me to see that we haven't all changed too much - many of you still have that great sense of humor (Carey, Richard, Lyle, etc., etc.)  Speaking of Richard's picture - how many of us were tempted to press that "click to enlarge" button strategically located above his "Now" picture?!!  (I, for one, clicked!) Anyway, back to business.

I am sorry to say I won't be attending this year's reunion.  Hopefully, we will have a 45th?? I live in Pennsylvania, teaching at an inner-city high school in Harrisburg, PA.  This is really, really a busy time of year for me.

I went to CWU after graduation and obtained a teaching degree in Business Education.  I was lucky to land a contract right out of college at Davis High School.  I remember so well, Mr. and Mrs. Burrill's daughter, Laurie, coming up to me stating that she was going to take one of my classes and, "give me hell"!  Pay back time!!She was delightful and never a problem (whew!) I taught at DHS for 9 years and then met my husband while "playing" in Ketchikan, ALaska.  We lived briefly in Seattle and then moved back to Ketchikan for 2 years.  We loved Ketchikan and toured all over Southeast Alaska in our boat.  We also fished halibut, salmon, red snapper, as well as shrimp and king crab.  Life was so good!!  We then moved to Juneau, Alaska, and lived there for 4 more years  During this time our two sons were born, Brian and Matthew.

Cliff (USCG) was transferred to Petaluma, California, where I continued my teaching profession.  My one claim to fame was briefly teaching Wynnona Ryder how to type - HA!  It amazed me how many of my former classmates actually lived in and around Petaluma while I was there.

From there, we moved East to Harrisburg, PA.  We were only going to be there for 3 years as I did NOT like the heat and humidity nor the lightning storms that we had all summer long.  But I did love the countryside; the Amish; close to New York City, D.C., Baltimore, and, especially, the Atlantic Ocean shores.  Well, almost 20 years later we are still here and I am still at Harrisburg High School.

My oldes son, Brian, graduated from West Chester University outside of Philadelphia and works in marketing/sales; Matthew is starting his 5th year of college, but still doesn't know what he wants to do!!But he is the one who always comes out "smelling like a rose" so I'm not worried about his future.

Cliff and I will be retiring at the end of this year and planning on returning to the West Coast (how I miss the mountains!!).  Not sure where we will live other than spending our summers in Southeast Alaska.

I will be thinking of all of you the night of our reunion.  This has been great reading about everyone's lives, etc.  I miss you all!  Have fun - wish so much I could be there, too.   Susan
