We'll continue to add pictures, maps, links. etc to show how things have changed and will continue to change. In a nutshell, construction has been started on a brand new West Valley High School located just west of the existing campus, just across 96th Avenue (which some of you will remember as "Piedmont" and some may even remember the old 1/4 mile "drag strip" marked thereon?), and which now extends all the way from Summitview Ave. to Zier Road, and eventually, so they say, will extend to Occidental / the Apple Tree Golf Course. Immediately west of the new high school site is the newly completed West Valley Fire District headquarters fire station and training facility. The new high school will be a 2 story structure with an interior courtyard and "limited access" entrance points. (Sorry Herb, no sneaking off at lunch...) The new facility will reportedly accommodate a maximum of 1500 students. Pictures and diagrams will eventually be provided. What about the old high school buildings? If the district knows exactly what they're doing, they're not being very communicative, but here's some of what I've heard (and should know more about soon.) Some of the buildings will be torn down, namely the old shops building , the library, and Building 3 (I think),... not sure about the music building??? Buildings 1 and 2, which were "connected" in the mid-'80's remodel, the "commons" (which replaced the roundhouse, and connected Buildings 1 and 2 to the Gym), and the (good old barrel vaulted) Gymnasium, with all its additions will reportedly be spared. The gym will most likely become a practice facility. My (completely unfounded) suspicion is that the superintendent's office is planning on moving from their funky digs just east of the current HS, and into the "building 1&2 groovy office area???" Maybe "the commons" will become a posh senior center where alumni (like me) can obtain free meals?...???... who knows? As far as I know, the football field/track will remain where it is/has always been... If you're interested in the "New and Now WVHS" keep checking back, as I intend to add stuff to this page as I learn more, get the time to do so, etc. Also, click HERE to go to the current WVHS official website! Once there, you can find out all about what it's like to be a HS student now (pretty weird!), what's going on in the community (according to the school district) AND you can even buy a blanket or clothing with WVHS logo for your grandchild, or?/!!
